NEW QUARTZ It is reported that a gold-bearing quartz reef, at present two feet three inches wide, has been discovered in the Paparoa range, opposite Stillwater about a mile from Langdon creek.' Two prospectors, employed by a Greyl mouth syndicate, made the find at the end of a 17-foot tunnel. WORKSOP DREDGE Advice has been received by the secretary that the Worksop dredge has been laid up through the failure of the Deisel engine. The following information has been cabled to the London office of the Waihi Gold Mining Company, Ltd.:— For the period ended February 16, 18.615 tons of ore were crushed for 4631 fine ounces of gold and 35,578 fine ounces of silver. This included 1900 tons mined from the Junction area, which yielded 457 fine ounces of gold and 1214 fine ounces of silver. Crushing results are for 22 days. Development Work —No. 2 level, Edward lode: Driving was resumed and continued to 227 feet through a mixture of quartz and country rock. From this point the drive was diverted south-east, and at 298 feet intersected the # main part of the Edward lode with a width of four feet of good grade ore. We have driven to the south on this 16 feet, the ore being of good grade and the width about five feet. No. 5 level, Martha lode: A winze is being sunk at 785 feet west, and about 10 feet from the hanging wall of reef. Particulars are as follows: On the east side of th(j winze the first two feet is country rock, the next two feet is quartz dipping flatly south-east and is of good grade, the next eight feet is country rock, and the next two feet is quartz assaying lis 9d a ton. On the west side is a mixture of quartz and country rock. No. 7 level, north branch of Martha lode: On the vein situated at 555 feet in, a rise is being put up at 38 feet west and the first 27 feet assays 12s 9d a ton. The lode is about one foot wide. No. 12 level, Edward lode:
Driving south, the next 35 feet assays 5s a ton. Junction No. 6 level, on south part of Royal lode: Driven to west 28 feet, the assay value is 14s 9d a ton. and the width of the lode is about three feet. GOLDFIELDS DREDGING CO.
