PREMIER THEATRE
"THE SILENCE OF DEAN MAITLAND" The first All-Australian Road-Show programme to be presented throughout Australia and New Zealand comes to the Premier Theatre, New Brighton, to-day, and Monday and Tuesday, when Cinesound's sensational screen success, "The Silence of Dean Maitland," and Australia's first musical comedy screen revue, "Cinesound Varieties," will be presented on the one great show. "The Silence of Dean Maitland" was the most discussed photoplay of the decade, the dramatic real-life story of a man of the Church, who, because of one youthful indiscretion, is sentenced to a life of hypocrisy and torturing memory. "Australia's Greatest Production" —"a screen masterpiece any of the world's foremost studios would be proud to have made," was the proclamation of the Australian press, and the public have endorsed this praise. In direct contrast to the dramatic power of "The Dean," and thereby providing variety, is "Cinesound Varieties." a merry musical revue with 90 Australian artists. Features of it are delightful music, the Cinesound orchestra of 30 instrumentalists, under the baton of Hamilton Webber, a glorious tour of Sydney harbour, enchantingly captured by that wizard of the camera, Captain Frank Hurley, musical and comedy items by leading Australian performers, and "Nautical Nonsense," introducing the Cinesound stage band, Fred Bluett and his bad, bold pirates, Sam Katz's saxophone band, the Cinesound beauty ballet. Box plans for all sessions at Hudson, chemist, or telephone theatre, 37-447.
