MARGARET'S COLLEGE SWIMMING BATHS PROPOSED Many of the old girls of St. Margaret's College who have arrived in Christchurch to attend the various .social functions arranged to celebrate the silver jubilee of the college, were amongst the visitors to the St. Albans baths yesterday afternoon when the present pupils held their annual swimming sports. The weather was ideal for swimming, and a keen interest was taken in the various events, especially in the house cup contest, which was won by Rimu, with Rata second, and Matipo in third place.

At 3.45 the visitors and pupils adjourned to St. Matthew's School, where I afternoon tea was served by Miss I. | Hunter, members of the staff, pupils of Form V.B, and prefects. The tables were bright with sweet peas and marigolds, and on a small table in the centre of the room the college birthday cake, given by the Old Girls' Association, held pride of place. The school colours, red and blue, had been employed in the decorativescheme, the upper tier being surmounted with a shield bearing the college moto, "Beati mundo corde," and 25 candles, the sides of the cake being iced to represent college girls in their winter uniforms. Little Helen Simcock, assisted by Archbishop Julius, cut the cake, pieces being distributed to all present. During the afternoon, trophies were presented to the successful competitors by Archbishop Julius, who was introduced by Canon Stephen Parr. In a short address, Archbishop Julius said that he thought there was no exercise in the world equal to swimming, and he was pleased that an effort was being made to provide baths for St. Margaret's College. He added that he would be delighted if the silver jubilee resulted in the college having its own baths. A letter of apology was read from Bishop and Mrs West-Watson regretting their inability to attend any of the jubilee functions. They hoped that the celebrations would lead to a strengthening of all the old ties between old girls and the school. Swimming: Baths Mr F. W. Freeman, on behalf of the parents, thanked Mrs Young and her staff for their hospitality. He added that it was imperative that St. Mar-

garet's should have a swimming bath The cost would probably be about £IOOO, but two donations, one for £SO and another for £25. had already been received. Parents and old girls should rally to the assistance of Mrs Young and help her in this very worthy way of marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of the school, he said. After some discussion, a small committee of men was appointed to make the preliminary investigations. VISITORS TO CHRISTCHURCH N'ew Oily Hotel: Mr and Mrs A.
