+ GREYMOUTH MAGISTRATE'S COURT (SPECIAL TO 188 TKESS.) GREYMOUTH, March 1. Appearing at the Magistrate's Court before Mr H. Morgan, S.M., Harry Omio, of Kokiri, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, with hard labour for using obscene language on a railway carriage, between Greymouth and Stillwater, on February 6. On a charge of drunkenness on the Greymouth Railway Station, he was convicted and discharged. Robert William Milne was granted a re-hearing of a charge of disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears to January 1, 1935, amounting to £9B 2s 6d. At Monday's sitting of the court, defendant did not appear, and was sentenced to three months'
imprisonment, to be released on payment of £2O off the arrears. At the rehearing defendant gave evidence and the magistrate ordered him to pay £ls forthwith, in default three months' imprisonment. Repairs to Cobden Bridge Work has been commenced by Borough Council workmen, on cleaning and repairing the iron and woodwork underneath the Cobden bridge. Some of the tie-rods are being replaced and all the iron-work will be re-tarred. The job is expected to take about a month. Cycling: There was a fair attendance at the weekly sports meeting conducted by the Greymouth Sports and Cycling Club, on Victoria Park. Results were: Half-mile Senior Cycle—D. Johnston (40 yards) 1, J. Daniels (10 yards) 2, P. Duffy Cscr) 3. Time Imin 7 l-ssec. Mile and a half cycle—J. Daniels (30 yards) 1, J. Larking (30 yards) 2, D. Johnston (75 yards) 3. Time, 3min 40 sec.

HOKITIKA VISIT OF SCOUT LEADER Ki'K.tlAL TO THE I'KEss.i HOKITIKA, March 1. Lord and Lady Baden-Powell and party halted for 10 minutes at Ross yesterday morning on their way to the glaciers. The Ross scouts, guides and cubs were} gathered outside the Post Oflice and the visitors were welcomed with a haka. Scoutmaster Agnew made a brief address and expressed the pieasure experienced by the gathering in giving a welcome to the Chief Scout and Chief Guide. Lord and Lady Baden-Powell have expressed a desire to meet local guides and scouts on their return next Wednesday evening. It is anticipated that guides and scouts from Greymouth and Kumara will travel to Hokitika for the function.
