DARFIELD Mr W. J. Glanville, who has held the position of headmaster at the Darf>eld Public School for the last 10 years, and whose resignation took effect on Thursday, was yesterday afternoon presented with an electric reading lamp by the pupils of the school. Miss Alice Churchward, one of the senior pupils, in handing over the gift, expressed the gratitude of the pupils and the hope that he would have many pleasant and happy years of retirement. Three hearty cheers were given for the guest of honour. Mr Glanville, in accepting the gift. thanked the pupils for the kind thoughts that had prompted the presentation and gave a brief resume of his service since he commenced work as a pupil teacher covering a period of 51 years, during which time he had had only four days' sick leave. SEDGEMERE There was a good attendance at the Sedgemere Hall on Thurday evening, when the annual harvest home social, arranged by the hall committee, was held. All present spent a very enjoyable evening. Dance music was played by Mr Fred Smith's orchestra and Mr H. Wear played an extra. The master of ceremonies was Mr C. Marsh. Prizes for a Monte Carlo waltz went to Miss Betty Breach and Mr Frank Kimber. After supper the chairman of the hall committee, Mr J. T. Parkin, thanked those who had helped to make the function successful, and expressed appreciation of the support accorded by the residents to the committee in its endeavours to maintain the hall property in good order and to effect improvements from time to time. At cards the most successful players were Mrs A. J. Inwood and Mr W. Hopa, the runners-up being Mrs G. Marsh and Mr N. Brown.

Brother L. B. Freeman presiding over a good attendance of members. Correspondence was received from the No. 1 Royal Arch Chapter advising of the quarterly meeting. The Druids reported on the sick members and sick pay was passed for payment. The evening was spent in discussing the Grand Lodge order paper.
