TRADE WITH POLAND
TERMS OF AGREEMENT ANTICIPATED BENEFITS FOR BRITAIN (BBI'IISB OFFICIA! WIRELESS.> RUGBY, February 28. The new trade agreement between England and Poland, which has been signed in London, will come into force provisionally pending ratification on March 14. Its provisions will afreet about 50 per cent, of the total United Kingdom trade with Poland, and about 70 per cent, of the trade in manufactured goods. Reductions of duty have been secured for many classes of United Kingdom goods, the principal ones being United Kingdom herrings, motor-cars and commercial chassis, textiles, machinery, and chemicals. Arrangements have been made for definite import quotas for United Kingdom goods in Poland and several purchase arrangements have been concluded between exporters in the United Kingdom and importers in Poland. The agreement alsju contains several clauses relating to shipping. In return, certain guarantees have been given for treatment of Polish goods in Britain. The balance of trade has been heavily against Britain. The Government anticipates a substantial improvement of exports to Poland. Polish duties on wool and textiles will be reduced by amounts varying from 5 to 50 per cent. Poland, besides continuing to enjoy being the most favoured nation in treatment on the British market, will receive tariff concessions of various kinds on timber, pit ponies, and poultry, and guarantees against increased duties on wood pulp, bacon, ham, butter, eggs, and tinned meats.
