CRICKET CLUB'S DANCE
ST. ANDREW'S COLLEGE St. Andrew's College Old Boys' Cricket Club held its first dance at the Winter Garden last night, the Balley-Ivlarsion orchestra supplying the dance music. The members of the committee responsible for the dance arrangements were Mr W. A. C. McDonald (president of the club), Mr D. R. Johnston, Mr N. Williamson, and Mr J. D. Caram (honorary secretary). The guests of honour were Mr J. B. Mawson (headmaster), and Mrs Mawson, Mr L. W. Stewart and Mrs Stewart, Mr Henry Dowling, president of the Old Boys' Association, and Mrs Dowling. Mrs Mawson wore a frock of heavy beige lace, with cowl collar held with brilliant buckle. Mrs Stewart wore a black lace frock trimmed at back with diamante buttons. Mrs Henry Dowling wore a frock of old gold corded satin with touches of leaf green satin. Other ladies present were Mesdames W. A. C. McDonald, G. A. M. CARD PARTY A pleasant time was spent when members of the committee of the Beckenham Public Library were the guests of the committee'of the Beckenham section of the Returned Soldiers' Association in a friendly challenge card match for a trophy presented by a member of the association. Mr E. Morse, president of the association, welcomed the players, and the match resulted in a win for the library committee by 202 games to 185. After supper had been served, Mr H. C. Campbell, chairman of the library committee, expressed thanks to the association for the entertainment.
PRIMARY WORKERS' CIRCLE The first meeting of the year of the Primary Workers' Circle was held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, with Miss G. Jones presiding. A short devotional service was taken by the leader. At the conclusion of the business session Miss Jones gave an instructive address on "The Teaching of Hymns in the Primary Department." This talk was illustrated by several posters made by Miss Jones. Members obtained many useful hints from this address. PRESENTATION PARTY At a pleasant little gathering, held recently, Mr Roy Kappely, on behalf of the staff of Aulsebrook's box-room, presented Miss Dorothy Savage with an electric jug, in honour of her approaching marriage. When making the presentation, Mr Kappely spoke of the esteem in which Miss Savage was held by the staff and of the general regret felt at her departure. He wished her happiness and good luck in the future. FAREWELL PARTY Mrs O. Berry, who will leave shortly for the south, was the guest of honour at a farewell party given by Mrs H. Boswell at her home at Spreydon. The time passed pleasantly with music and competitions, the latter being won by Mrs S. King, Mrs Briggs, Mrs Poole, and Mrs Olds. A souvenir was presented to the guest of honour. Those present were Mesdames Berry, Olds, E. Mercer, Sim, Poole, G. Tindall, S. King, Briggs, and H. Boswell.
