♦ "DISCHARGE OF NORMAL DUTIES" (Received February 27, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, February 27. In the House of Commons, the Financial Secretary to the War Office (Mr Douglas Hacking), in answer to a question, said the visit of General Sir Archibald MontgomeryMassingberd to Egypt, the Sudan, and Palestine was for the purpose of inspecting and training troops. Rear-Admiral B. W. Barron similarly was inspecting the fixed defences at Singapore, Hong Kong, Colombo, and Aden. Both visits were being made in the discharge of normal duties. FATAL SNAKE BITE SYDNEY, February 28. Florence Mar!ot-t, aged 21. died in the Mullumbirr,y Hospital after having been bitten bv a snake while she was walking along a street. She received first aid and was hurried to hospital, but without avail.
