THE OLD BRIDLE PATH ROAD
TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir,—When walking up the historicBridle Path road one cannot help noticing the awful state of disrepair into which it has fallen. Surely someone is responsible for its upkeep, either the Lyttelton Borough Council or the Public Works Department. In several places the road is scoured away very badly, letting Hood waters down the hillside through private properties in Hawkhurst road. If it should be a wet winter it will be a danger to several ratepayers below these washouts as the whole of the storm-waters will pass through Mr Williams's paddocks down to the houses on the west side of Hawkhurst road. I hear that Mr Williams drew the council's attention to the state of the road, but nothing more has been done. When one gets to the top of the hill and sees what has been done on the other side, one wonders why this side has been so neglected. Is it a case of "Wake up, Lyttelton?"—Yours, etc., RATEPAYER. Lyttelton. February 26, 1935.
