I Sir John Grice. who was born in Melbourne m 1850. was colled to the bar in 1872. after graduating LL.B. at the Melbourne University. He later became a prominent figure in the publie and commercial life of Melbourne. He was for many years a member, and later vice-chancellor of the Melbourne University council, and from 1886 was a member of the hospital committee. He was a director of several companies, including the National Bank of Australasia, Ltd.. the Trustees Executors and Agency Company. Ltd., the Australian Glass Manufacturers' Company, Ltd., and of the Australian board of directors of the Dunlop Pcrdriau Rubber Company, Ltd. He was also an Australian director of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Ltd. During the Great War, Sir John was an active worker in the Victorian branch of the Red Cross Society. He was made a Knight Bachelor in 1917.]
