THE M.E.D. CLOCK

TO THE EDITOR OF TUB PUKSS. Sir,—Seeing the illustration of the new clock in "The Press" this morning, I was struck with the size and wondered why such a huge clock should be put up on this small building.

On inspecting the clock to-day, I. thought it was unnecessarily large, but could see the need of the "Big Ben" idea when I looked back at it from near the Manchester street bridge some few yards further on; anj'thing smaller would certainly have been hidden amongst the maze of overhead transmission lines and poles. I would like to know who is paying for this clock? Or is it one of the gift, clocks? Will it chime? Will it play tunes? —"Lead, Kindly Light" for instance; or will it serve as an alarm clock for the department.—Yours, etc., SERVICE. February 26, 1935.
