MONTE CARLO

TO THE EDITOE 07 THE PRESS. Sir,—The attack on Mrs Margaret Macpherson for her mention of a true historical fact in the course of her radio talk is surel; both unreasonable and unfair. The ban on controversy has been bad enough so far, but a ban

on the: I ruth about medieval or even modern history because ol Hie supersensitiveness of an individual or a class would be insullerable. It. is a fact that until a .year or two ago several Anglican Bishops in England were shareholders in armament ltrmf, but the widespread broadcasting 01 that information would have no effect on my religious beliefs as an Anglican. I would say that human being is infallible and that standards of morality are as numerous as the sands on the seashore, and consequently I would not necessarily associate myself with the actions or beliefs of any human leader of my church. I agree with your correspondent:-; "Catholic" and "W.1.A.", and also with your wireless writer "Ariel,'' that Mrs Margaret Macpherson is a remarkably fine speaker and that 20 minutes is all too short for her talks. T have listened for many years to ail manner of radio talks and would have n<; hesitation in advancing the opinion that there is no finer radio speaker in New Zealand that Mrs Margaret Macpherson. I hope the Broadcasting Board will ignore the puerile and narrow-minded protest of your correspondent, and will engage Mrs Macpherson for many further talks. 1 look forward eagerly to the time when we shall have the benefit of her experience and erudition on controversial subiects. —Yours, etc.. SEEKER. February 2fi, 1935. [This correspondence is now closed.
