Golf Club MeetingThere was a fair attendance at the twenty-third annual meeting of the Lyttelton Golf Club, held last evening. Mr D. E. L. Collett, vice-captain, presided.
The annual report stated that the club had a successful year, with keen competition and an improved standard of play, particularly amongst the younger players. Because of transfers, the club had lost three valued members, Captain T. Bowling and Messrs K. Gower and H. Donald. All three were members of the committee. During the season considerable expenditure had been made in an endeavour to improve the greens. All the greens were top-dressed, but, owing to the dry summer, they had not benefited to the extent hoped for. From an inspection of the course made last week it had been ascertained that the fairways would not require to be cut this season, but numbers two and three fairways would require burning-ofl. The membership of the club was 47, and the finances, as shown by the balance-sheet, were satisfactory. A team from the club visited the Akaroa Club and had an enjoyable week-end. The club's championships had been won as follows:—Senior, M. L. Page; junior. J. Shanley: women's 'senior, Miss E. White-Parsons; .junior. Miss H. Suteliffe. The club had had a very successful closing day, with a record attendance of members and visitors. The thanks of members were due to the president, Mr R. Orton Bradley, for his continued kindnesses, also to the Misses Bradley and to Mr R. Anderson. Commenting on the report and bal-ance-sheet, the chairman said the position was very satisfactory for so small a club. Much of the credit for the sound linancia! position was due to the treasurer, Mr H. Derbidge. The following officers were elected: President, Mr R. Orton Bradley; vicepresidents, Messrs J. Stokes and R. Anderson; captain, Mr 11. E. Ayers; vice-captain. Mr D. E. L. Collett; treasurer, Mr H. Derbidge; secretary, Mr H. G. Ban/ield; assistant-secretary. Mi- C. Pascoe; committee. Messrs H. Banlield and Miss M. Williams. One resignation was received, and one nomination for membership was approved. It was decided to open the season on March 10.
