PRICE OF MILK TO BE RAISED
♦ SHORTAGE OF FEED FOR CATTLE At a meeting of dairy farmers and suppliers of milk in the Sumner, Mount Pleasant, and Redcliffs districts. held last evening, it was decided to raise the price of milk in these districts from March 1. Mr H, Olson was in the chair. A resolution, "That the price of milk be advanced to 5d a quart, and at the rate of 4Jd a quart for four pints and over from March 1." moved by Mr J. Gilbey, was carried unanimously. A second resolution, "That the price to gallon consumers be Is 4d," moved by Mr S. S. Middleton, was also carried. Remarking on the scarcity of feed, Mr Middleton said that he had been feeding his cattle since December. Usually this was not necessary until April or May. Mr H. Bliss said that the mangel crops in the district were extremely thin and poor, some of them yielding only a third of a crop. He had had no second crop of hay, and a crop of maize which he had planted had struck and withered off again.
