♦ CANTERBURY BRANCH The regular monthly meeting of the council of the local branch was held last week. Those present were Mr A. E. Flower (in the chair). Dr. F. G. Gibson. Messrs C. G. McKellar, H. P. Bridge, B. E. H. Whitcombe. 'A letter was received from Lord Baden Powell's secretary expressing appreciation of an offer by the branch to assist him in any way should he be visiting the South Island. The Sydney branch wrote extending a cordial welcome to any members visiting Sydney and placing the library and writing rooms at their disposal. Arrangements lor the combined celebration of Empire Day by the local patriotic societies were further discussed, and it was decided to hold an early meeting of the combined societies to make final arrangements. Mr H. P. Bridge submitted a draft of proposed rules for the branch, and these are to be considered finally at a later meeting.
