TURF GOSSIP. Reminders. Nominations for the Weatlaiui Meeting close at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday. Nominations for the Oamarn Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting will close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday next. Biccarton Training Notes. Conditions wore very favourable for training operations at Eiccarton yesterday, except that the tracks were showing the. effect of the prevailing dry period. The outside of the course proper and the plough were in use and both provided fast going.
On the Plough. Meprisant and Muff strode over six furlongs in lmin 16 2-ssec, finishing together. Fleeting Glance ran five furlongs in lmin 4 l-ssec, and Drum Fire registered a similar performance. Moorbird, assisted, by Maurena over the last half, covered six furlongs in lmin 16sec, the last half in 51sec. Moorbird was going easily at the finish. Straightcourso and Ball Dress occupied lmin 18 l-ssec for the same journey. • Elude, Minerval, and Bed Heckle were practically in line at the end of seven furlongs run in lmin 30 3-ssec, the last three in 39sec. High Tor easily accounted for Proyd Knight over six furlongs in lmin 18 3-sscc. Dunraven had a slight advantage from Ringing. Cheer after recording lmin 3sec for fivo furlongs. Charmeuse attracted attention by reeling' off six furlongs in lmin 15sec, the last three in 38sec. Tarquinius and True Shaft ran six furlongs in lmin 18 3-ssec. Bed Boyal, joined by Niggerhead at the six furlong post, traversed seven furlongs well in lmin 31sec, the last six taking lmin 18 3-ssec. This pair Bhould race prominently at Waimate. Limited, who is due to race on the West Coast circuit, covered half a mile in 52 2-ssec. Silver Bight had a slight lead from Metal Bird at the end of half a mile in 50 4-ssec. Arrowmir and Wise Choice were together throughout a six furlong task executed in lmin 17 3-Ssec. The last three in 39sec. Weatherby and Ma Belle Polly ran half a mile in 51 l-ssec. On the Course Proper. Taragona showed promising form in beating Shatter by half a length after covering a mile in lmin 44 l-ssec, the last half in 53 2-ssec. Biri - and Kakara were to have galloped seven furlongs, but the latter broke away, and each sprinted home half a mile. Bamo comfortably accounted for Night Flyer and Gasrange over six furlongs in Msec, and their stablo-mate Solwit ran half a mile in 51 2-ssec. Night Guard beat Water Polo over four furlongs in 49 2-ssec, and finished on strongly.
Great Star and Grand Beview covered six furlongs the reverse way in lmin 18 2-ssec.
Verden displayed useful speed by reeling off five furlongs in.lmin 2 3-5 see, the last half in 50sec. Berate finished slightly in front of Silver Scorn after sprinting half a mile in 49 l-ssec. Grecian Prince worked on the No. 6 track and was not allowed to do his best in recording lmin 15 3-ssec for six furlongs, tho last three ity 40sec. Banelagh, who is to contest the Waimate Cup, strode over a mile in lmin 45scc. Biding Engagements.
Soma of the Biccarton horsemen will be riding at Waimate to-morrow> and will proceed to Westport on Friday. These include A. Eastwood, who will ride Minerval, Silver Sight, Hot Tea, and Crash at Waimate, and Monastic, Lady Valkyrie, Jael, Johneen, ana Coll at Westport; B. Coveny, Nightguard (Waimate), Taku Tama, and Wise Choice (Westport); M. Kirwan, Bational 11., Truo Shaft/ and Tarquinias (Waimate), and Charmeuse and Binging Cheer (Westport). Other riders at Waimate are:—G. Humphries, Bamo, Pakitere, Adult, and Denise; D. O'Connor, Appeal; C. Carmorit, Banelagh. The Washdyke-trained Merry Peel figures as an acceptor at both the Wellington and Waimate Meetings, but he is to race at Trentham and later at Ellerslie. He will be ridden to-morrow by L. J. Ellis, whose other mounts comprise Arvada, Earthquake, and Courtyard. A. E. Ellis will pilot Sailor's Love, Cricket Bat, Fast Passage, and Joie de Val.
Promising Hardier. Storm Baid (P. Stock) gave a .pleasing display in a schooling task at Eiccarton yesterday. He is the makings of a good hurdler and may do well during the winter.
Bacing at Trentham. Cricket Bat, Winsome Hind, Sailor's Love? and Fast Passage in charge of H. Cutts, and Gay Crest, The Quorn, and Tout le Mond, in charge of T. Lloyd, were shipped to Wellington on Monday, and tho following went north last night:—Taragona, Shatter, Mgorbird, Hilary (F. D. Jones), Jaloux, Azalea, Pacify (P. Mason), and Grecian Prince (B. W. King). For Westport. H. Nurse with Chanueusc and Kinging Cheer, E. Ellis with Wise Choice, and C. McCarthy with Monastic and Taku Tama, le£t by last night's West Coast train en route to Westport. TROTTING NOTES. Beminders. Nominations close at 8.30 p.m. tomorrow for the trotting events on the Westland E.C.'s programme. Nominations for the Cheviot T.C. Meeting close on Friday at 9 p.m. Corrections. Dillon Chimes-'s handicap should read 36yds, not 24yds, behind in the Buller Handicap, at the Westport Jockey Club's Meeting, and Alpine Melody's mark should be 72yds, not 60yds, in the Granity Handicap. A Concession. Under the new handicapping system a horse may be let up a line from his assessed mark if he does not finish first «»r second, having raced four times at two different Meetings, at the end of six months from the time he last finished first or second. Henco the fact of St. George's becoming ineligible for the Express Handicap, a 4min 35sec class, and being transferred to the Wilkin Handicap, 4min 40sec claps, at tho Addington Easter Meeting. Bears Good Appearance.
Great Logan, looking very well, was responsible for an attractive effort at Addington yesterday morning, when worked in company with.Warplane, Real Girl, Jewel Pointer, Brontlight, and Linkman. Great Logan has yet to «be raced by J. S. Shaw, who appears to have effected an improvement in him since taking him over a few weeks ago. At Manawatu To-day. Horses likely to race prominently at the Manawatu T.C.'s Meeting to-day are:—Ladies' Bracelet: Wisteria, Historian, Goldzono; Gorge Handicap: Amy Etawah, El Merit, Summertime; Dash Handicap: Free Logan, Special Sun, Daddy Longlegs; Manawatu Plate: Capilano, Silver de Oro, Sandown; Komako Handicap: Historian, David McElwyn, Cracker; Pohangina Handicap: Winslow, Astral, Mihad; McDonald Handicap: Aerial Boy, Hardy Grattan, Lucky Voyage; President's Handicap: Special Suu, Free Logan, Silver de Oro. Pageant is at > present being worked by bis owner, his tasks being mostly in saddle, with a view to contesting a race of that class at the Easter fixture. Back to Old Quarters. Yet another change of stables has been decided upon for Boyal Silk, and he was returned to J. S. Shaw on Monday. Mending Slowly. Huon Voyage is making a gradual recovery from the ailment from which he has been recently suffering, and he can be given jogging work. ■J. Young has Holly !Bank in hand again. The imported gelding has built up well, as a result of his holiday in thd paddock, and he looks in good order to begin another preparation. In New Hands. E. C. McDermott has leased from Dr. G. Haskins the four-year Ally Symmetry, who has now joined her new trainer's stripg. This filly has shown winning form during the season and she gives promise of developing into a useful performer.
Prospects for Wyndham. The following horses are likely to be well supported in their Wyndham engagements to-day:—Ferry Handicap: Kamaldar, Lee Boy, Keen Derby; Novice Handicap: - Mocast, Chiming Wave, Tocsin; , Toi Tois Handicap: Molly Desborough, Willie Wave, Deste; Wyndham Trotting Club Handicap: Erin's Advance," Manoeuvre, Lomar; Edendale Handicap: Nelson's Fortune, Central Pointer, Blue Mountain; Menzies Handicap: Wild Bidge, Kamaldar, Sea Mist; President's Handicap: Anthem. Man o' Franz,, Nellie Osborne; Final Handicap: Probationer, Manoeuvre, Llewellyn. Good in Saddle. Princess Mauritius has been worked in saddle on several recent occasions, and she gdes well with the weight on her back. She claims an engagement in the mile saddle event on the first day of the Easter racing. Has Sprinted Well. Erin's Pointer is coining along well in her work and she has been responsible for some smart sprinting tasks in her recent track work. Wilma Dillon. x Wilma Dillon, who is to race at Easter is still carrying a lot of condition and it is doubtful if he will be ready to bCSt Et the a PP roacllin g MeetBaces to-day at Wyndham. Lomar, who finished out of a place when made favourite at Timaru last Saturday will be given a chance to make amends to-day at Wyndham, where she is engaged in the principal event and the Final Handicap.
