BOXING.
CANTERBURY COLLEGE CLUB. LAST NIGHT'S TOURNAMENT. In the Canterbury College gymnasium last night a fair attendance witnessed a number cf well-matched contests between 'Varsity boxers and eclected local amateurs. The tournament was promoted by the Christchurch Sports Club in conjunction with the Canterbury College Boxing Club, in order to give the College team, which will be finally «ele<?fced after the trials on rrio.ay next, some experience for the 'Vanity tournament, which it is hoped will be hold at Easter. The College team was trained by Mr U. Simpson, and the Christchurch Sports Club team by Mr C. H. 'L'avlor. > FLY-WEIGHT. K. O'Connor (C.S.C.) beat W. K. Marshall (C.U.C.). Marshall proved very aggressive in rounds one and two, hut his footwork was faulty, and O Connor scored repeatedly with a fast right, though often forced back to the ropes. In the final round O'Connor took the Jead to win comfortably on points. FEATHER-WEIGHT. Superior rifrgcraft enabled B. Carey (C.S.C) to; defeat J. A. Bell (C.U.C.) on a technical knock-out in the third round. Fighting south-paw Carey landed several heavy lefts, Bell retaliating hotly to the chin with a. right. In round two both men were cautious, but. in the third round Carey had Bell groggy with well-directed lefts lo the jaw, and the fight was stopped. G. F. H. Wygert (C.U.C.) beat N. Fisher (C.S.C.), after "a" close and interesting bout. Wybert opened to Fcore well with long-range lefts, but Fisher countered effectively, and in round two endeavourd with some success to force the fight close in. The last round saw hard, fast hitting by both men, but Wybert received the decision after a clever and forceful bout-LIGHT-WEIGHT. y. Gray (C.U.C.) beat D. Winder (C.S.C.). Winded had the advantage in reach, but Gray scored with quick rights and lefts to face and body. In round three Winder attempted to force the pace and was floored with a heavy right. D. J. M. Glover (C.U.C.) gained the decision in round two over F. Livingstone (C.S.C.). The bout opened in whirlwind fashion, bbtb men connecting crisply with Lr.tl hands. Glover forced the fighting but tired towards the end of the .first round. Short-arm jabs and hard in-fighting opened the second round, but Glover had his man rocking with lefts and rights, and the bout was stopped. R. Chester (C.U.C.) took the- decisio: from C. Winder (C.S.C.), when the tstler injured (ne> wrist towards the close of the first round. Chester was loosing some terrific rights, Winder proved a eljver boxer, and was urfortunate in not being able to continue. After three willing rounds, W. F. Monk (C.U.C.) beat A. D. Park (C.S.C.). Park croved fast and effective, but- was answered lr? heavy lefts and rights. The bout slowed up in the second round, but both contestants were putting weight into their punches, with the crning fairly even. The last round opened in determined fashion, hut Monk evaded the heavier blows to retaliate with accurate rights to the jaw. WELTER-WEIGHT. W. J. A. Brittenden (C.U.C.) beat F.Vancleibean (C.S.C.) in two rounds, after a fast and scientific display. Brit'.--.rider scored repeatedly with crisp lefts, while "and'or--1 >ean's rights were generally ineffective. In round two Vnnderbean attempted an . aggressive policy, but Brittenden, with excellent t:ming, came up from a duck to score heavily with his left. Vanderbean was forced on to the ropes, when, a good teft hook gave the decision to Brittenden on i technical knock-out. EXHIBITION BOUT. Giving the best display of the evening, N. Moulin (C.S.C.) had R. Chester (C.U.C.) guessing for most of three good rounds. Chester, relying mainly on a- cjangeroualookmg right, attempted to force the fighting, but by clever slipping and ducking Moulin gave no chances and snapped in fast blows with both hands to jaw and body: In rcund two Chester connected with a good right, but Moulin proved altogether too disconcerting »nd evasive, and in the final two minutes showed that he was as quick pi attack as defence No decision was given, light-heavy-weight. B. Wheeler (C.S.C.) knocked out It. Gaudin 11!. U.C.; towards the end of the first round. Although Gaudin opened well with powerful lefts, Wheeler proved fast in countering with ». heavy right which soon found an opening. Gaudin went down heavily to hit his bead on the boards and was counted -out. The officiate were: Referees, Messrs J. D Hutchison and J.' T; Burrows; announcer, Mr A. McDonald Smith; ■ timekeepers, Messrs P. Crooke and R. 0. Kennet; judges, Messrs Tl "H. Livingstone, C. .S. Thomas, W. E. Moulder, and B. Rennfeli, Supper was provided for officials and contestants in the Students' Association building. COOK-CARNERA FIGHT POSTPONED.
