A deputation from the Unemployed Workers Movement, which was to have been-received by the Chfistchurch City Council last night; did not'attend. In hit statement, the' Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., said that the secretary of the Unemployed Worker* Movement was advised to arrange for a deputation to wait on the Work* Committee, with reference 'to ! the' posting of boards and receiving subscriptions in the Council's yard. In the event of 110 satisfactory arrangement eventuating,; the deputation was to be received, at 8 o'clock last night. He understood that the Works Committee agreed to notice boards being erected in the yards to notify dates and' times of meeting* of the organisation, bit could .not see its way to authorise, the collection of dues in the Council's yards.

With the object of supplying the need for chamber music in Christchurch, a music club, to •he known as the Laurian Club, has recently been formed. It is intended to give two concerts a year, embracing chamber music—vocal works of such nature, instrumental concertos, and compositions for string or chamber orchestra*. The promoters of the club have acted on the advice of the Bussian" violinist, Jascha Heifetz, who said when he was in the Dominion that it was. possible that the progress of New Zealand music would be just as great as the attention that was given to the development of chamber music all over the country, and especially, in the larger cities.
