With the object of supplying the need for chamber music in Christchurch, a music club, to •he known as the Laurian Club, has recently been formed. It is intended to give two concerts a year, embracing chamber music—vocal works of such nature, instrumental concertos, and compositions for string or chamber orchestra*. The promoters of the club have acted on the advice of the Bussian" violinist, Jascha Heifetz, who said when he was in the Dominion that it was. possible that the progress of New Zealand music would be just as great as the attention that was given to the development of chamber music all over the country, and especially, in the larger cities.
