FETE AT WAIMAIRI SCHOOL.
A successful fete in aid of the school funds was held at the Waimairi School on Saturday afternoon. Good business was done at all the stalls, and a fair sum wa? raised. The stalls and stallholders were:—Flower stall: Mesdames Drury and Musgrove; cakes: Mesdames Neilson, Reid, Good, and McOullough; shilling stall: Mesdames Smith and Newman; bran tub: Miss Betty Smith; soft drinks: Mrs Haynes; variety stall, Mesdames Hookham, Daphoff, and Claude; sweets: Mesdames MeLeod and Morgan and Miss MeLeod; produce: Mr J.' N. MeLeod; afternoon tea: Mesdames Burrell, Tillman, Dalley,' Bates, and Winter; side-shows: Messrs Drury, Barker, Claude, Musgrove. Good, Smee, and Gibson. During' the afternoon a. number of races worn held for the school-children, also a fancy dress parade. Mesdames Shirlaw and Holmes actod as judges of the fancy costumes, and awarded the prizes as follows: Lower Division. Girls, cheapest dress: Joy Burrows (Bunny); best dress, Shirley Morley (Fairy); specinl, Judith Lloyd (Fowl); boys, cheapest, Don. Smith (Mechanic); best dressed, David Meyers (Coster); best trade costume, Don Greer (Nugget). Upper Division. Girls, cheapest dress, Nancy Salkeld; best dressed, Margaret Burrell (Pierette); special, Megan Lloyd (Knitting Bag); boys, cheapest costume, Neil Meyer (Indian); best dressed, Murray Salkeld (Fish). ■ The results of the races were as follows: Boys—Under six year: Bruce Clark 1, Phil Scalmer 2. Under seven years: Billie Graham 1, Perce Newman 2, Under oight years: Murray Cook 1, Des Gilmour 2. Standard I.: Alex. Thompson 1, Murray Mitcholi 2. Standard II.: Hay Sturrock 1, Jock Falconer 3. Standard III.: George Thomas 1, Noel Webley 2. Standard IV.: Jack Tulloch 1, Rep- Good 2.
