Lovers of old. windmills will welcome the decision to class the famous "Moulin de la Charite," in Montparnasse Cemetery, Paris, as an historical monument. It is the only windmill remaining on the Left Hank. This solitary tower, now without sails, was built in the 17th century. At" one time there were half a dozen windmills on the banks of the Seme within Paris Toward the end of the reign of Touis XV- a *° tne ou l ul de la rharite was a favourite excursion of the lords and ladies of the court. Even „«*>,• the Revolution cakes and wine wSi S sold there. .Later Victor Hu.ro and other literary men tried Ho wive its fame, but it was isolated from the world by the, creation of gontparnasse Cemetery, in 1824^
