Another fantastic story, among r many others that were gaining currency . during the day, was that Lindbergh, disguised in the striking uniform of a New Jersey State trooper, was making mysterious lone night rides, ostensibly for the purposo of following clues. There is no authentic news of any nature. i ~" AN ARREST MADE. , AL CAPONE OFFERS TO HELP. (Received March 11th, 7.10 p.nn) NEW YORK, March 10. ' A message from Newark (New Jersey) states that Henry Johnson, a seaman, has been detained in connexion with the Lindbergh kidnapping. He was . formally, placed under arrest to-night on a charge of violating the immigration laws iu Brooklyn in Johnson is a friend of Betty Gow, the Lindberghs' nurse. A report from Hopewell says that a spectacular offer of assistance for the private search of Colonel Lindbergh for his stolen son, came from "Searface" A 1 Capone to-night, despite the fact that he is in gaol. The Chicago gang chief offered to post a 200,000 dollar bond it' the Federal Government would release him to join in the search for the child. RUMOURS OF HIGHER RANSOM. NEW YORK, March 11. A report from Hopewell states that a material increase in the ransom demanded by the kidnappers of the Lindbergh baby was advanced early to-dav .as one explanation of the delay in the return of the child. It is reported that the original sum sought (50,000 dollars) was raised in subsequent notes to Colonel Lindbergh from the abductors,, who are keeping their identity and the place «. close "secret. ......
