The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain), replying to Mr D. B. Joel (Conservative, Dudley) in the House of Commons, said it was clearly against the national interest to hoard coins of the realm. He therefore saw no reason to object to their sale, provided the law against melting down was not contravened.
