ALLIED DEBTS TO BRITAIN.
EFFECT OF AGREEMENTS. ANNUAL INTEREST BURDEN OF £45,000,000. (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIBELESS ) deceived March 11th, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, March 10. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain) stated in answer to a question in the Houes of Commons to-day that the money lent to the Allies during the war was borrowed at slightly over 5 per cent.,interest. The total amount of war debts covered by the agreements with the Allies is £1,2-10,000,000, on which the interest :it o per cent, amounts to £62,500,000. The total annuities payable by the Allies to Britain under the agreements amount to £17,500,000, and on this hasis, which leaves out of account any provision for the repayment of the money borrowed, the uncovered charge upon the British public funds is £-15,000,000 a year. > j
