LANCASTER PARK.
MEETING OF BOARD OF CONTROL. The Lancaster Park Board met last night. Present: Messrs C. S. McCully (chairman), A." E. MePhail, W. L. iving, W. C. Flewellyn, J. K. Moloney, and R. Beattie. The 'Varsity Amateur Athletic Club asked for the use of the park for the college championships and tournament trials on Saturday, March 19th, and for a small preliminary-meet-ing on the evening of Wednesday, March 16th. The letter set out that the club was unable to qse the Christ's College. ground owing to its There would be good competition among the college athletes, and in the open events there were good entries, including Hart, " Gordon, and other prominent runners. As the park is required for cricket on March 12th and March 19th the request for March 19th was not panted; the use of the park for, March 16th was granted at the usual fee. •, . Catholic Schools' Sports. On behalf of the combined Catholic schools of Christ-church, / /application was made for the free, use of the^park on St. Patrick's Day (Starch 17th)," for the purpose of *-holding a sports meeting to celebrate the 15th centenary of .the arrival of St. Patrick.in Ireland. The Board was assured that no damage would, be done, and every care would be taken to leave the park" in.as good condition as it was found. It was reported that permission had been given subject to the approval of the Board. '• The action of the committeeman confirmed. All Rations Fair. Mr H. S. Feast, .secretary of the sports committee of the All, Rations Fair, wrote that the Canterbury Cricket Association proposed devoting, the whole of the net proceeds from' the club championship final to the Mayoi-'s Relief of Distress Fund.' The final was to be played on Lancaster Park on March ,12th and 19th, and he was directed to ask if.the Board could see its way to forgo its share of the" takings on those days. The writer added :"I may.-mention that all sports and athletic bodies in Christchurch are co-operating for the purpose of raising funds for this worthy and your Board's compliance with the committee's reouest would be very much ap- ■ predated.," ••• -It was stated that the matches referred to were 'not to be played on . the park, and it was decided to reply accordingly. • Statement of Finances, The receipts and payments for the period January 21st to March 10th were as follows: ' - v Heceipts: to balance, £697 lis; cricket, £862 8s; inscribed stock, £11; refund, Fariners' .Co-operative discount sd; athletes, £2B lis; total, £1599 10b od. Payments: Deposit, National Bank, £100; - athletes, £ls 8s 8d; cricket, £686 17s 8d; wages £101; repairs and renewals, £3 16s 7d; printing, £1 lis 8d; income tax, £8 5s ; rates,. £7B 4s 4d; ammonia, 17s; Municipal Electricity Department, 4s; miscellaneous, 7s; balance £602 18s' 3d; total £1599 10s od. The statement was received, and it was decided to discuss at the; next meeting the question of repaying a portion of the advance made to the Board by the Canterbury Rugby.Union. Accounts totalling £2l 17s were passed for payment.
