HOPEFUL SIGNS REPORTED. JAPANESE NOTE TO CHINESE AUTHORITIES. (UKITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELICTKIO TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received March 11th, 12.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI, March 10. Hopeful signs of an early settlement of the outstanding Chinese-Japanese differences wero seen in a communication addressed to the Chinese authorities by the Japanese Minister, Mr Shigemitsu, to-day, indicating a definite desire speedily to enter final negotiations for the cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of forces. The Japanese make clear their readiness to negotiate along the lines of the Leagus Assembly's resolution. Mr Quotatichi, Yico-Minister for Foreign Affairs, has announced that the Chinese will issuo a statement on similar lines to-night. A Kobe message says that the League Commission will stay at Kobe to-night. It will sail for Shanghai to-morrow. Public anxiety lias been increased by the fall in exchange and the increase of unemployment, while progress in China is disappointing. CHINESE BANDITS. ATTEMPT TO HOLD UP TRAIN. (Received March 11th, 12.30 a.m.) TOKYO, March 10. Tlireo hundred bandits attempted this morning to hold up a train in which Count Uchi&t, General Honjo, mid other officials were returning from the inaugural ceremony at Changchun. Japanese guards, whoso arrival was timely, drove off tho bandits and rescued the train.
