ADMIRAL BYRD'S PLANS. POLAR COMMERCIAL POSSIBILITIES. (united phess association —by electbic TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received March Bth, 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 7. A message from Cincinnati states that Rear-Admiral 11. E. Byrd is returning to Antractica to determine the commercial possibilities of the Polar regions he claimed for the United States. He will establish his base 500 miles south of Little America, and lie hopes to drive through tho vicinity of the Pole itself before he pitches camp.

A cablegram from New York, dated January 18th, reported : Rear-Admiral 11. E. Byrd, addressing the Explorers' Club, revealed that on his 'forthcoming expedition to the Antarctic ho intends to establish a subbase in tho interior of the continent at the foot of the Queen Maudo mountain range and spend the Polar winter there making scientific observations. It was disclosed that he has already started active preparations for the next trip. "Friends have promised a ship for it," he said, "and already I have 35 tons of assorted equipment at Boston Navy Yard." Tho chief objective.? to be undertaken are to determine whether there is a channel between the Ross Sea and the Weddell Sea, and to explore by air the unknown area east of the Pole. "I won't announce when we are going." Rear-Admiral Byrd added, "We are busy now with the scientific data of our last trip, and I do not want to set a date for the new expedition until I have finished the old one."'
