EDUCATION.

THE STANDING COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the newly constituted Canterbury Standing Committee on Education was held in the Canterbury Education Board's office on Monday evening. Bodies represented at the meeting were : —The Canterbury College Board of Governors, Canterbury Education Board, Canterbury School Commitees' Association, Waijnate High School Board, Technical College Board of Governors, North Canterbury Branch of the Educational Institute, Waimate Branch, of the Educational Institute, Professorial Board of Canterbury College, St. Andrews' College, Staffs of Christchurch and Avonside Girls' High Schools, Christchurch Boys' High School, St. Bedes College, Technical College, ltangiora High School, and Timaru Girls High_ School. Mr G. Lancaster was in the chair. , Officers elected for the ensuing year were:—Chairman: Dr. J. Higlit; secretary and treasurer:- Mr S. It. Evison; executive committee: Miss Finlayson (president of the North Canterbury Board of the New Zealand Educational | Institute), Miss Sims (Christchurch Girls' High School), Mr A. K. Anderson (St. Andrew's College), Mr A. E. Flower (Canterbury College Board of Governors). Mr C. S. Thompson (Canterbury Education Board), Mr T. W. West (Canterbury School Committees' Association), Mr McGregor Wright (Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors). As a fi;st stejp towards enabling the standing committee to work constructively at a time when so many adjustments are being made by the Education Department, it was decided to ask the Government to state its policy. Dr. C. E. Beeby, Dr. D. E. Hansen, and Miss Sims were appointed a subcommittee to prepare' a report on vocational guidance for boys and girls.
