THE NEW DAIL.
EVENTS ANXIOUSLY AWAITED. , OATH OF ALLEGIANCE. CHALLENGE TO EMPIRE INVOLVED. (UNITED I'IIESS ASSOCIATION— BY ELBI/TBIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received March 7th, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 7. ! Events "in Dublin during the next few days are awaited anxiously, and I may possibly determine the new Bail's lifetime."* If both the Fianna Fail and Labour adhere to their declarations an irresistible force will meet an immovable body. If Mr de Valera raises the Oath issue it will, like Aaron's rod, swafjjow all the others, involving a challenge to the Empire, in which the Fianna Fail's social programme will bo hopelessly submerged. Apparently Mr tie Valera seeks both to repudiate the obligations and to retain the advantages of the Treaty, though the counsels of his lieutenants may induco him to modify his plans owing to tho approach of the Eucharistic Congress. _ The members of the Cosgrave Party probably will play a waiting game.— "The Times" Cable. SOCIAL LEGISLATION. REPUBLICAN PROGRAMME. DUBLIN, March (i. Broadcasting to America, Mr E. de Valera (Leader of the Fianna Fail), indicated his intention of complying with Labour's demand to give precedence to social and economic legislation. Ho added, that parents must no longer be doomed to rear children for export. Ireland must provido work for her unemployed by giving them work which strangers were at present doing.
. STATE OF THE PARTIES. LONDON, March t>. • A Ministerialist has been elected to fill the seventh seat in the SligoLeitrim division. Tho state of the Parties now is: Fianna Fail (Irish [Republican) .. 72 Ministerialists (Cosgravc Party) .. 55 Independents .. .. .. 15 Labour .. .. 7 Independent Labour .. .. 2 The abovo figures disregard the Speaker and Mr John Daly's scat (Fianna Fail), which is vacant owing to his death on February "3rd.
