ASHLEY. The Ashley County- Council met at Xoburn on Friday. Present, Ors; D. BI Hutchison (chairman), Bennett, Bnsor, Wetherall, Mc-1 J3raclcen, PnUey, and WJlson. 1 Mr "Wilson reported a large change of direction of tho main stream of the Okuku at Inglis road. The fees for dog registration' were' made the same as those of last year. Mr John Wilson and Messrs Ravenwood and Falcon applied for permission to gate Inglis road; East* tlu? clerk was instructed to advertise the requests. , Mr P. R. Climie find Mr R. T. Bailey called on the Council andi stated .. the; developments favoured by the .Unemployment 'Board, and more especially the details connected with the extension of the. 4A Scheme for farmers. The speakers were of the opinion that single men resident "ih th# r totons Bad not ' secured sufficient relief work for a long time, and they urged the counties to send in re• quests immediately, for men under the new scheme, by which the Board gives 7s "6d per men per week to the farmer for food, in addition to the usual 10s to <he man. Mr Climie also said that the No. 5 Scheme was not now favoured by the Board. Preference was given to certain. definite county works, as the general improvement of a back road, or a drainage scheme, for which a number of men would be required and continuous work for a few weeks, be given. After discussion 'a vote of thanks was accorded the visitors. It was decided to apply, for some men for work on Dobson's road, and to canvass the county for farmers' requirements of men. TAWERA. At the monthfy meeting of the Tawera; County Council there w&e present Ors.' H. A. Millar Cchairman), W. 11. Williams,.. BM. Johnson, and R. MillikW An apology for Absence was received from Cr. J; K. McAlpioe. A new lease of the* Glacier -Hotel, Bealey, for a- torm of live years, was granted to Mr F. W. Cochrane, the present licensee. The Wnitemata County Council wrote' ask-: ing the Council to contribute' towards the, cost of an appeal against a decision of the Court that the Council should bear the expense of removing transmission poles erected by the Power Board where removal was necessary for road improvement purposes. It waa considered that as the same ratepayers had to find the money, it was immaterial which loeal body bore the cost,"and no action was: The St. John Ambulance Association submitted a return showing the number of calls received during. the last quarter, their cost to the Association, and the amount received in donations in respect of these "calls. ' Ther Coittnissioner of Unemployment wrote urging that as many as possible of the unemployed men should be placed with farmers under the No. 4A Scheme.
