CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. ANNUAL REPORT. That the past' year was a successful one, and that the committee) is looking forward to the new season with confidence that the results will be better than ever, are points mentioned in the annual report of the Christchurch Harrier Club. The report will be presented at the annual meeting next Thursday. "The club now has a, membership of b&i eleven less than in the previous season," states the report. "Sixty different runners took part in the runs, the total attendance being 467, 73 less than in the yrevious year. The average attendance was 23.35, compared with 30 in the 19S0 season. There were 21 runs and races during the season. At fourteen of the runs our members were entertained at afternoon tea by various hosts. A new "feature in the club's activities was provided by the holding of .two runs from the United Tennis Olub's piavilion in Hagley Park, when the afternoon tea was provided by the members themselves and by their lady friends. ■ Cross-country Championships. "In addition to the races provided by the club Borne of the members took part in the New' Zealand cross-country championship, the Canterbury cross-country championship, the. Temuka to Timaru road race, and the Papanui Amateur Sports Club's road race. The New Zealand cross-country championship was held in Auckland on August 29th, when the Pantprburs team included three members of the club—R. M. Barrer, G. H. Watson, and j w. Shepherd. Barrer and Watson put «n snlendid performances, but the team as a whole did not do well. The "Canterbury cross-country championship, held at Cashmere on August 15th, was a splendid triumph for the No 1 team, which retained the inter-club harrier championship cup with the record score of 11 points. The team was: —R. M. Barrer 1 G. H. Watson 2, J. W. Shepherd 3, and J D. 5 - R " M - G. H. Watson and J. W. Shepherd were first, second and third respectively in the individual championship. W. Coburn was the club's best competitor in the junior chamfilling third place behind L. 0. Fulford (Baptist) and O. Savage (Anglican). Barrer third. Teams' Bace. "The annual teams' race was held Over the five-mile course at Cashmere on May 23rd. •Splendid performances were put up .-in tan race, which was won by B. A. Barrer s team (B A. Barrer 3, L. C. Richards 6,. ±l. Ha'worth 10, and E. A. 'Bayers 22) with 40 points. Second place was filled by Watson's team (G. H. .Watson 1, W. Coburn 9 F. A. Nelson 15, and A.
