ROWING.
REGATTA AT KAIRAKI. The annual regatta of the Christchurch%Regatta Club was held at Kairaki on apy afternoon, when the weather was dull and misty with a chiil sast wind. The regatta had already been postponed from a fortright ago. . No crews were present from ouUioe of Canterbury. The attendee# was rather poor. The following were the results:— YOUTHS' SINGLE SOULLS. One mile. Union . (G. Toner) .. ? J Akaroa (T.E. Armstrong) - • " Avon (G. H. Bowden) .. • • 8 Toner rowed well and won by /our lengthy with Armstrong goinirvery strongly at ths fininh. Penman) ... . .. 8 1 Union got its lead early, and held it, though the other two challenged a quarter of a mile from th.e finish. Union won" by a length and a half', a canvas "between the other two. Lyttelton Was well back. SENIOR DOUBLE SCULLS. One mile. Avon (F. H. Thompson, C. A. Stiles .. 1 Akaroa (D. Reid, ,W. W. Reid) .. 2 Akaroa lost a good deal of ground by following the bank bay, but Avon went some of the- way with Akaroa. There wag a - tussle for Some distance, but Avon finally increased its lead to three lengths. The only competitors. . JUNIOR DOUBLE SCULLS. One mile. Akaroa No. 1 (D. Reid, W. W. Reid) .. 1 Avon (F. Duggan, L. Patterson), . ~ t Sumner-Redcliffs (M. Hullett, A. M. Grafton .... 3 Akaroa, rowing well, never looked, like being beaten, and won. by four lengths. Avon had to go hard tp beat Sumner-Redcliffs by a length. MAIDEN FOURS. . One mile. Canterbury No. 2 (H. Waymouth, H. Francis, D. N. Beckett, D. R. Evans) 1 Akaroa . . ' . . .. .. 2 Lyttelton . . . . -- .. 3 Sumner-Redcliffs ... .. .j. 4The seven crews were on terms a quarter of a mile from the finish, though Canterbury had a slight lead. It forged ahead, rowing a beautiful race, to increase its lead a length and a half at the finish. A chain from home Akaroa, Lyttelton. Sumner-Redeliffs, and Avon were level, and the finishing apurts sorted them out only by a few feet. YOUTHS' DOUBLE SCULLS. • One"* mile; Union (G. Toner and 0. Oooper), X Canterbury .. .. 2 Avon .. .. 3 Union, with Canterbury close, went to the front early and gradually increased its land to win by; four lengths. Canterbury staved off Avon's challenge by three-quarters of a length. SENIOR FOURS. One mile. Avon (C. A. Stiles, F. H. Thompson, A. A. Andrews, 0. Bishop) .. .1 1 Canterbury ... .. - 2 Avon rowed a much better course. Canterbury lost at least a length by going too close to the bank. Avon won by two lengths. - - EIGHT-OAR CREW.
