TAR-SEALING IN THE CITY.
TO THE EDITOH OF THE PRESS. Sir, —Tlio. condition of some of oar City streets, through lack of attention, calls for some comment. 1 understand that the City Council has purchased elaborate tar-sealing outfits. For some reason or other, these are not used at the proper season or in the proper places. There are miles of good tarsealed roads in the City which, through lack of top-dressing at the proper time, fall into serious disrepair, and then the cost of repairing the damage is very heavy. If the Engineering staff or the Council find it impossible to have this work tabulated for urgent attention,- the Chairman of the Works Committee should have something to say in the matter. Later on "hen the wet, cold weather comes, the excuse, will be that tar-spraying cannot be carried out.—Yours, etc., RATEPAYER. March 3rd, 1932. [Cr. J. W. Beanland, chairman of the Works Committee of the Christchurch City Council, was out of town yesterday, and in his absence the City Engineer (Mr A. R. Galbraith) gave the following information The question of tar-sealing, of necessity, is intimately connected with the supply tar. Ta t being a local t° r which there is a heavy demand it present, the Works Department has to arrange its operations in accordance as supplies are available.]
