AUSTRALIAN DAVIS CUP TEAM.

VISIT TO AUCKLAND ONLY. (press association telsgrut.) WELLINGTON, March 4. Although it had been hoped that the members of the Australian Davis Cup team would be able to arrive in New Zealand a week earlier than was decided by the Australian tennis body, and thus be available to play matches at both Wellington and Auckland, advice was received from Australia to-day by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association that the original date of arrival, at Auckland —April 4th—would be adhered to. The team will therefore participate in exhibition matches only at Auckland. A cable was received from tho Australian body early Jast' month advising that the team was flue at Auckland on April 4th, and suggesting that the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association should offer a guarantee for an exhibition match. Later another cable was received saying that Mrs Crawford, doubles and mixed lady champion, waß accompanying the team, and would play exhibition matches.

Early this week the Management Committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association cabled to Australia saying that it vas prepared to offer u guarantee provided Mr and Mrs Crawford, and at least one other player, or Vincent McGrath,- arrived at Wellington on March 28th, and played one mhtcli thero and one at Auckland, boforo leaving Auckland on April sth. To-day's cable regretted the inability to accept this offer. ;
