ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE.

At 5 p.m. yesterday, the St. John Freo. Ambulance had responded to 31 calls for tho week, and all but one of these necessitated transport to hospitals. Tho greatest number of calls received .on any one clay was seven, on Wednesday. Ambulance Divisions. Members of the Cliristchuich Railway Ambulance Division met on Monday evening in the Railway social rooms, in Oarlyle street. There was a good attendance recorded, and Superintendent v ßonnington was in charge. Mr J. Becconsall District Officer, was in attendance, and after the inspection gave a very interesting lecture on first aid and what to expect oil the sports field,- and street accidents. Numerous questions were answered at the close of the lecture, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. Members wero detailed lor public duty for the ensuing week-, and notice was given of Dr. McQuHkin's visit to the rooms on Monday next.

The Christchurclr Men's Ambulance Division met at the Brigade rooms on Wednesday evening. There were 20 members on parade, and Acting Superintendent \\. Palmer was in charge. Three probationary members were admitted, and after the inspection triangular bandaging and splinting were carried out. The work was strictly in accordance with the 38th edition of the first aid book, b.v which it is intended to revise and bring up-to-date all first aid work. Members were afterwards appointed for public duty, and also to assist in collecting at the band concert and community dancing. # • • Members of the No. 3 Ambulance Division met on Thursday evening at the Brigade rooms. Superintendent F. Ash worth presided over an excellent attendance., and after the inspection members were detailed for public duties on the various playing fields, and the St. John Freo Ambulance. The work of the evening was devoted to bandaging and splinting. Nursing Divisions. A meeting of the No. 1 Girl Guide Nursing Division was held at tho Brigade rooms on Tuesday evening. There was an excellent attendance of both seniors and cadets, and three new members were admitted as probationers. After the business of the evening, arrangements were made for public auties on the St. John Free Ambulance,, and "Hand Seats" a" i the finding of pressure points wci-e practised. Later in the evening Dr. Helmore. Divisional Surgeon, attended and delivered a short lecture on the signs and symptoms of fractures, which proved very interesting and instructive to members.

Tlie Christchurch Nursing Division met on Monday evening in the Brigade rooms, when Mrs Bell presided over an excellent attendance of' members. Three new members were admitted and all were- reminded that a first aid class would be commencing on March 7th.

Public duties were arranged for the St. John Free Ambulance, and two members having attended the Waltham'School picnic. Several cases in which members had rendered first aid during -fcho week were .also re-

ported. Later in the evening Mrs Fricker, Lady Corps Superintendent, attended and supervised bed-making and roller bandaging, on which 6he afterwards expressed her satisfaction.

The Lyttelton Nursing Division paraded on Tuesday evening at the Y.W.O.A. rooms in Lyttelton. There was a good attendance of members, and several new members were enrolled. Dr. Upham commenced another series of first r aid lectures, and the nursing section afterwards practised oral tests.

A Church parade will be held on March 13th in Lyttelton, and a dance on March: 26th, to both of which a cordial invitation has been extended to ail members of St. John. In order to control better the socials and dances, a combined committee has been formed with the Men's Ambulance Division.

Members of the Selwyn Nursing Division held their weekly meeting on Tuesday evening. There were 36 members on parade, and Mrs Angus, Lady Superintendent, was in charge. The usual" duties were arranged for the ambulance, after which practical firpt-aid was carried out, under the supervision of Miss Best, Lady Divisional Officer. Later in the evening a "question bee" was conducted. « • ♦

The Beckenham Nursing Division met on Thursday evening, under the supervision of Mrs Gay. There was a good attendance, and the names ot several new members were added to the roll. On the previous parade night, Colonel F. W. W. Dawson attended. and gave a very interesting address on scalds and burns, which has proved very beneficial to members, stud for . which they wish to record their appreciation. '

Members reported having done duty on the Ambulance at picnics, as well as supplying demonstrators at the cadet classes, and at Glentunnel. lja^ in the evening, Mrs Bishop attended and gave tests in stopping haemorrhage and in fractures. Questions were also invited on pressure points, and blood circulation.
