The new regulations prohibiting the use of Danish seine nets from vessels under way are due to the fact that & number of boats have been trawling with these nets, which are not Resigned for such a purpose, acetntfißg to the manager of a well-known Auckland fishing firm. He stated that as fax as he knew the new restrictions were noc expected, and it appeared that either inspectors of the Fisheries Department had detected seine fishermen dragging their nets or complaints had been made to the Department regarding the practice. The seine net differs from the trawling net in shape, mesh, and strength, and is intended to be used from a boat anchored on the fishing grounds. The net is released and then drawn inboard, but afifwrently some boats have been dragging these nets in the same way as trawlers tow their nets. The new regulations do not affect trawlers, although a definition of trawling is added to tin? regulations.
