TRAINING COLLEGE.
EX-STUDENTS* ASSOCIATION.
Mr S. R. Knapp presided at tne annual meeting of the Ohristchurch Training College Ex-Students' Association yesterday, the first function to be held in the recently-completed new wing of the College. There was ® good attendance of member*. The annual report for the, year 193031 stated that although the year had been successful; there had been a de- - cided falling off in membership in 1930, arid it was hoped that all ex- . students would endeavour to show their interest in the Association by becoming financial members. The committee had interested itself - > in ways and means by which the As- , ' sociation could in some practical way benefit the College. It was recognised that help in building up the „ College Library could be given, while tnere was the question- of undertaking the furnishing of the new wing. The' statement of financed recorded a balance of over £4 on December 31st, 1930. Mr J. E. Purchase (principal of the Training College) extended congratulations to the outgoing executive and . urged all ex-students to rally round the Association. He briefly referred to the fact of the new wing being used for the first time. . The election of' officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr J. E. Purchase; president, Mr S: R. Knapp (re-elect-ed) ; vice-presidents. Mis Bickerton, - Messrs G. Jobberns, J. G. Poison, Borthwick, and C. T. Asehmaa; secretary and- treasurer, Mr. L. P. If. Ward; committee. Misses M. Kennedy, M Duncan, E. Gaut, and N. Ward, Messrs G Head, M. Hopper, E. laran, A. JSyles, and M. Bull. • , After, the fprmal meeting, afternoon tea was served. - -• In the evening the reunion 'dance 1 was held and.wae largely attended. ' ' The Htnr Wing; The new of the Christchurch Training College, jvhich was used by students for the first time yesterday, - will improve greatly' the, social' facilities, since practically the whole of the new available space has been devoted to the „ provision of dining and living accommodation for the students.
_ The 1 main room, spacious and weir lighted by several tall .windows, will *• be used as a combined dining and common room, and its architecture makes for utility as well as comfort and structural beatity. The dining tables will be situated in that end o* the large room adjacent to a commodious and wdl-appointed T kitchen; in. which electric cookers' and-the necessary domestic adjuncts have, already been installed Behmj! this kitchen/ on the ground floor, iff s roam* ' and locker room, another" of which is _ to be found on the second floor. Stairs .from, this latter room lead to an extensive flat roof, which will probably be utilised in the summer ft*' opqn-air classes, and also as something in the nature of . a lounge. On it a number will shortly placed. Opening from the lower portion of the -> roof is the one new classroom,: which the. extension provides. This will be used by hand-work classes and the necessary seating and apparatus has been installed. The room is large and extremely well lighted by windows on . &11 sides# * ' The erection of the new two-etoried wine completes on three wdes'the formation of the' quadrangle, ■ lie improvement of which has already been commenced. '
