TRIANGULAR MATCH. TIMARU V. ASHBURTON V. O AMARU. :' ' ■ ' -. .'. . i On< Saturday aiternoon the Timaru Defence ' Rifle Club fired a ' triangular matcb with Ashburton and Oamaru on the Timaru Club's range,. The' day set in wet, but. by lunoh time looked as though would clear. However,' light ' rain . still fell ' during the aftetnooa until about 8.80, when it came on be&vy, and at times wis so wet that one could hardly 'see the targets at 600 yds. In spite of the wet day every jnqa selected In tho Ashburton and Oamaru teams turned and all except one in the Timaru team, his place being'filled by an emergency. The conditions' for the day were seven shots at 800, £OO, and 600 yards. At 800 yards, the Ashburton president (Mr D. Keir) made a start for hit tekm; by registering a 4 possible, liis board reading 5565555 —85. The next highest scores registered at - this range | were made also "by Ashburton men, G. Cromie and J. Yeandle scoring 'B3 each. Ashburton were, ten j points in the lead of Timahi and 24 points. I abecd of Oamaru at the conclusion of the. first, ranges .At 500 yards, A. Dons (Oamaru) 'was the leading man with a possible. Qis board read D. Keir (Ashburton) . started "off with four • bulls and i looked as if he was .to -have another posr s;ble, but his next shot' was a 4, but he finished< with two bulls, making him 84 for the range, which made ' him 69 out,. of a possible 70 for the two ranges. Thero were three others; who. just, missed the, possible by. one point. They wero 6. Carmichael and W. Bradshaw of Timaru, and O. Glassy of Ashburton. At this range Timaru hod i the best total, 825 points; Ashburton had i 820> and 'Oamaru 310, making Ashburton five i points in - the lead from Timaru at this stage. The home team then put on afternoon, tea for the visitors, and at 4.80 a start- wa* made at 6()0 yards in heavy rain. The only good scores were recorded by H. Koppert. (Oamarti), E. Truman (Ashburton), and C. Blackwood (Timaru); each with • 32. Ashburton gained a further four points on Tirnaru, making them 'the winners by nine points. At: the conclusion of the shoot, the Timaru Club entertained the visitors to tea. Mr Duncan (president of the Timaru Club) extended -a hearty, welcome: to the visitors, and congratulated the Ashburton team on wiering, the match. Mr D.- Keir, of the Arhburton Club, replied.' Mr McLatchie, replying for the Oamaru Club, apologised for the "absence of its president, Dr. 'Qrbell.' ' Following are the team scores:—

A match was fired at ICaiapoi on Saturday . afternoon between the Kaiapoi and Chriatcburch Defence Rifle Clubs. the conditions being teams of ten menaside, seven shots at 300, 500, and 600 yards.
