GUIDERS' WELCOME.
CAMP-FIRE f EVENING. A guiders' camp-fire evening, in honour of Lady Baden-Powell, was held at St. Luke's Hall last evening. There was a wide attendance of Canterbury guiders, among those present being Lady Game (New South Wales) and the following Commissioners: Mrs Kitchingham (Greymouth), Mrs Trail, Mrs Grigg, Mrs Wilson, Mrs. Irwin, Mrs fitudholme, Mrs Dunn, and Mrs Cracroft Wilson; Miss C. O'Rorke, Miss Anderson MisS 8011, and Dr. Booth. Lady Baden-Powell spoke of the special pleasure she had in being present because the Girl Guide movement in Now Zealand had started in Christchurch. She mentioned that she had just received a cable to the effect that her Majesty the Queen was to open the New Imperial Guide Headquarters in London on March 20th This was important because it was the first occasion on which her Majesty bad done anything tangible in relation to the guide movement - Former members of the Peaoe Scouts (the movement which existed before the formation of the Girl Guide companies) were presented io the Chief Guide. These were Mrs Hames, Mrs Sims, Mrs Odering, Mrs Watherston, Misses Cosgrove, Carnie, and R. Wilson. The badge of the Order of Merit presented to Miss Cicely O'Rorke, Eagle Owl for New Several guiders, who had been connected with the, 1 movement in England, were also introduced to Lady Baden-Powell. - The evening's programme included a Maori welcome, in the form of a canoe song, poi dance, and stick game, performed by-Maori 'guides and guiders Qitea Uru, Henrietta Manawatu, Josephine Muriwa, ana Ngati Meti; recitations of the story of the pioneers; and camp-fire songs. ■
