DANCE AT ST. MARY'S. Amongst the heaviest losers, both, in life and in money, during the recent earthquake disaster in Hawke's Bay, are the members of the Marist Order of Catholic Priests, who have thenSeminary at Greenmeadows. At this Training College two priests and seven students for the priesthood were killed, and the beautiful Chapel and a fine new block of buildings were wrecked, while other buildings Tvere so badly damaged that they will have to be demolished. The tangible of fo y years' work were destroyed in a lew minutes. It is estimated that in the last two years the financial loss of th. Marist Order at Greenmeadows, first by fire, and afterwards by. earthquakes, is no less than £IOO,OOO. _ r o +h Already, all over the Dominion, Catholics, by direct giving, are coming to the assistance of the Older, ," ishes like St. Mary's in Christchurch, which have always been served by Marist Fathers, are making special efforts to show their gratitude for the devotion and zeal of the priests, who have laboured amongst them. Many entertainments are _ being arranged, the first of which,. a social and dance, was in St Mary's Memorial Hall, Manchester street North, under the auspices of tho Altar Society, of which Miss U Harrington is honorary secretary. It | was a record success. The card-room was crowded and there was a large a tendance of dicers, who enjoyed the I music supplied, iree of ehaige, by l John Dunne's orchestra. Prizes oi the card tournament, given by Mrs L>. Hauehey and Miss Gooley, were presented by the Rev. Fatlver Keane, S.M. to the winners-Mrs McPhee Miss Gooley, Mr Bonisch, and Mr Hickland.
