GENERAL MEETING HELD. A meeting of tjie St, Albans Burgesses' Association', was" held 1 on Tuesday evening, Mr 1 J. E. tiagliardi presiding over ' the following members Messrs 11. B. ■ Dalley, F. Prouting, W. Wallace, J. 1 Woodard, 0. A. G., Plumridge, W. C. Green, J. Weston, A. Price, M. Bruce, T. Young, E. Ewings, G. Hilledop, ■ 'and E. Manks. - > -, ~, v . The delegates to the United Burgesses' Association reported on* the ' of Government, representation On_ the Waimakariri- River Trust. The -J opinion of the United, Association was that the representation of the South. ■ Bank should, be increased by one; t lb t had formerly been suggested that'one of the Government's representatives should b«; withdrawn, .'but this proposal: / was given up, and the / Association would bo -satisfied jf .the'.South'.Bank .representation was increased. The, - other delegate'reported on the United- • Association's, decisions regarding the St. Martins-Rapaki road.' A Bpeaker remarked that the people through whose land the proposed rpad / ,'would 'pass would benefit from it. IH« thought the property owner? should >■. pay for the formation" of at least a proportion of.-the cost, as landowners in other districts had to do.- I .' i. Mr" Wallace-suggested /that it did: not concern St. 'Albans very greatly." It seemed to him that they would be - going- out of their district if they dis- - cussed the question. Mr Prouting, one , of the delegates, pointed out, however, that the St. Martins district was » member of the United-,'Burgesses' As-' sociation. The scheme had . been •-, brought up as an attempt to aid un-/ employment, and as the. work of : making the road would consist largely of labour, it might bfa of great nelp in that direction The present stumb-ling-block to the scheme was not the cost of forming the road, but the cost of upkeep and maintenance. . ■ Mr Dalley suggested that it was no business of the St. Albans, Association,, to press for the construction of % road, the upkeep of would have to be paid by another county. Such a question as this, he thought snoula be settled only by those bodies directly, connected with the undertaking. Mr Hillsdon moved that the Association take no action in the matter, ana the chairman, saying he fully agreed with Mr Dalley, seconded the motion, which was carried-/ 1 , Discussing the proposed new swimming, baths, Mr Wa U ac e , suggwted. that they "should apply to the Unem. ploy men t Board for labour work, and then devote the money , raised to the provision of materials. Mr* Dalley questioned - whether tney would have sufficient funds even to carry the bath alone to a stage of completion, where it would be sa ® leave it until enough additional mOnOy had been, raised to complete it.';;;" was decided 'to make the application if sufficient funds were available tor the necessary minimum, of materials.
