BECKENHAM BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION.
It is the intention of the Cityi,Couneil to clean up thoroughly the streets, footpaths, and channels in Beckenham, according to an announcement made by the president of tho Beckenham Burgesses' Association at a. mee<pg of the Association on Monday. He v reported *h»ving interviewed Ors. E. H. Andrews and J. W. Beanland and having discussed with them two ways of meetthe. cost-of improving Eastern ter», race footpaths and -channels. "One' was that property-owners should pay so much a foot to have footpaths and channels laid, and the other was that a loan should be raised to pay for the work in all unchannelled parts of the City. The matter was left by the meeting in the hands of the. secretary (Mr A. D. Cooper) with power to act. The president also reported that he had discussed the reinoval of the accumulated sand and gravel in Norwood Btreet, from Fisher street to Sandwich road,'and as a result men had been put on to do the work.. The meeting decided to urge the Council to give attention to Malcolm avenue, which was said to be in a very bad state. ■ The meeting also discussed, the refusal of Mr W. W. Scarff, a member of the Heathcote County Council, to give the Association support .in its request, for th® removal of .trees along the Heath* cote bank and it was decided to apply to'another member, Mr J. F. Scott.
