LATEST DOMINION FIGURES. RETURNS OF MAIN CENTRES. (PBIS"* ASSOCIATION T*LSQEAM.) WELLINGTON, March 1. ' Owing to the destruction of the records in the Labour Bmeau at Auckland in consequence of the recent disturbance caused by some of the unemployed, and also to the loss of records at Napier as a result of the earthquake there, it has not been possible to furnish during the past couple of weeks returns showing the unemployment position throughout the Dominion.

This statement was made by the Minister for Labour, the Hon. S. G. Smith, "on Saturday, when explaining why there had been a fortnight's interval since the last announced unemployment registrations. The Minister stated that the returns for the week ended on February 23rd had now been compiled. They showed that the total applications then pending on the books of the Department were 27,662. Following are the returns of unemployed in the main centres for the week under review: — With Dependents.

Thß new or renewed applications during the week were 8466. Of these 3474 were from persons who had not previously registered during the past twelve months.

Of the 27,662, 10,978 were qualified and again placed in employment under the Unemployment Board's Schemes No. 2 and No., 5.
