THE HILLS OF BANKS PENINSULA.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS; Sir,—A glorious new walk over the hills of Banks. Poninsula is in the making. As I stood on the site of the last peg 'marking a new extension of tho Summit road track late this afternoon, I felt tired, for I had climbed high up on the western slopje of Castle 'Hill (2805 ft), and the way had been very rough, but I forgot my tired feeling* in the admiration of the wonderful views. There arc thousands in Christchtirch 1 who love a walk- along • tho breezyi frilly tops, sad tMa-»ew; ; walk fivgr#A Mll«
of Banks Peninsula will be a revelation to them. To reach a rugged,* rockcovered tecrace on Castle H(U. I made my way up-a steep ,spur, in more pegs, .beyond the;last one driven in, last Friday.,', ' This afternoon I reached, within 4Q or 50 feet, the rocky terrace along which the* new track will be made, and wMch will enable the walkers, who for so many years have looked forward »to this, to take; this way over the hills to Akaroa. ."JTow'men there be that.love the plaiar - With yelltfv* cornlaiid dressed; And others Jove the sleepy valesWhere lazy cattle rest; 1 * 'A 3ut some men lova, tie. anei^nt f hiUfj,-;" And those have- chosen best." / ~ etc, y • Wigaxx
