Mary Agnes Vaughan,'aged .55," was sentenced to three months 1 imprisonment with hard , labour for drunkenness. It was her fourth offence within six months. • : FOUGHT IN ST. ASAPH STREET.

John Olsen, a labourer, aged 29, and John James, a labouror, aged 20, were charged with fighting in St. Asaph street on February 25th. They pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspeptor P. J. O'Hara said the two accused had had a fight lasting 10. minutes in St. Asaph street. During it Olsen had an eye cut open and had to have medical attention.

Olsen was fined £1 and costs, including medical expenses, £l_ 2s, in default seven days' imprisonment with hard labour. James was fined £2 and costs, in default' seven days' imprisonment with hard labour.

REMANDED. Leslio Albert Sales, an apprentice, aged 20, and William Righton, a labourer, aged 17, wore remanded to appear on February 27th on a charge of stealing, on February sth, a motor-cycle valued at £47 10s, the property of Francis Beban. BREACH. OF PROBATION. Robert' Henry Brockie, on' a charge of failing to comply with the terms of his release on probation, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. The Probation Officer described as "plausible and evasive" and "a professional debtor." FALSE PRETENCES.

Vincent John Sedgley was charged that, on January 17th, at Invercargill, with intent to defraud, he obtained from Arthur Bernard Oloake the sum of £1 18s by falsely representing that orders bearing the signatures of F. L. Simons, W. J. McDonald, and Mrs R. P. McDonald were genuine orders for enlarged photographs. "He was engaged in canvassing for orders, and evidently was not making a paying proposition of it," said Chief-Detective J. Carroll. "He resorted to presenting ' bogus orders for photographs." He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. ILLEGALLY.ON RACECOURSE. John Robert McGregor, for being found on a racecourse while an excluded person was fined £5 and costs, in default one month's imprisonment with hard labour. Twenty-four hours were allowed for ,paymont. . ON LICENSED PREMISES. Robert Craw and Thomas Scarlett were each fined 20s and costs for being found' on tho licensed premises of Tattersall's Hotel aftor hours.

On a charge of breaking and entering by day the honge of Grace Annie Dicker and committing thqft. Samuel McDonald, a labourer, agod 41, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.

Chief-Detective J. Carroll said the accused had broken into the house during the owner's absence on October Ist, 1930, and had stolen several articles, some of which had later been found in the possession of the accused. >

Grace Annie Dicker, the wife of Arthur Dicker, of 84 Thackeray Btreet, said that on October Ist, 1930, she had left home at 1 o'clock. The doors were locked, and all the windows except one were fastened. On her return lator in the afternoon she found the back door unlocked. On going into the. house she found it had been ransacked and articles of clothing and jewellery wore missing. The total value was about £24 Bs. Entry appeared to have been gained through'the dining-room window, which was the one left unfastened. Witness identified some of the stolen articles produced in Court. . Detective J. B. Finlay said ,he had examined the house of the previous witness. He had' interviewed tho "accused, who made a statement admitting taking eomo, of the articles, and saying that he had boen drinking at the time of the offence.
