ST. JAMES' THEATRE.
"SWEETHEARTS AND WIVES" AND "COURAGE.**
Only very seldom does there come to the screen such an outstanding programme as that which will open to-morrow at St. James' Theatre. There are two. big ' pictures, "Sweethearts and Wives" and "Courage," and each would make a complete evening's entertainment by itself. " It was this exceptionally brilliant double-feature programme that recently made some amazing records in Australia.
Once more Billie Dove scores a triumph in "Sweethearts and Wives." It is said to bo one of the most completely satisfying and entertaining films seen for many a moon. It represents that very difficult combination of mystery and fun which so many producers have striven to achieve and so rarely with success. But "Sweethearts and Wives" tries it in a fresh way. There are novel turns in the plot and characterisation and—a highly , important point—there is a uniformly excellent cast. Of course, Billio Dove could make a whole production in herself, but besides the beautiful star there is Qllvo Brook In one of the most faultless performances of his distinguished career, together with Leila Hyams. And the rest of the cast is worthy of these headliners.
The story is all about a stolen diamond necklace. There is a little lonely inn in tho south of France where tho action takes place—and it is the sort of action that keeps you setting on the edee of your chair.
