OBITUARY.
COLIN STUART LIGHTBAND. The news of the death in Auckland on Monday of Colin Stuart Lightband, at the age of 2li, came as a shock to his many friend# 111 this City. He was educated at the Ohristchurch Boys' -'High School, leaving in 1922, after which he joined the Old Boys' Association, being an active and popular member until he left .Ohristchurch. In 1929 he married Phyllis, the only daughter of Mr ..and Mrs Wm Shaw, of •Opawa,. and left Ohristchurch &> take;up : a position with Harold Lightband, Ltd:. Auckland. *. _ - Much, sympathy with bis widow and his bereaved familv has been expressed by his fellow Old Boys -and members of the Cashmere Tennis Club.- in which he took a very active part while in Ohristchurch. _ Kindly reference, showing the esteem in which Mr 'Lightband was held at the old school, was made by the headmaster, Mr G. J. Lancaster, before the school at prayers on Tuesday. Mr C. S. Lighthand was the third son of Mr H. Lightband, of this City.
MR J. PITCAITHLY. An old and respected resident of 'Lyttelton, Mr James Pitcaithly, dilid suddenly at his residence in Ross terrace yesterday morning. Mr Pitcaithly had a slight heart attack about ten days ago, but recovered,, and was m his -usual state of health until yesterday morning, when he collapsed. Mr ' Pitcaithly w4s> >. born , at sea whilst, his parents- were on their way outvto-New Zealand.. The family first settled ?in Pigeon" Bay, but later moved to Lyttelton, where Mr titearthly received his first education at a private school in Godley Quay. . worked in his father's butchery business for some years, and later became it, partner. Alter the death oi his father he carried on the business until about six years ago, when he retired. A i staunch supporter and .member or the Lyttelton Methodist Church Mr Pitcaithly held at various times all the offices in'the church open to a layman, and at the time of his death was a church trustee. Ho was member or the committee of the Lyttelton Permanent Land, Building, and Investment Society, and a member of the Board ol the Seamen!s Institute. , He leaves a widow, a daughter, and four, sons, Messrs William, James, John, and George Pitcaithly.,
