He said that he had found that as a member, hj« could not give full effect to iua convictions about India. He agreed to the Conservative delegates taking part in the Round Table Conference, but was surprised and alarmed at the sudden landslide of opinion which took place. oould only say that upon India Mr Stanley Baldwin and he '"do not mean the same thing.** NORMAL CONDITIONS AT BENARES. RUGBY, February 24. Boplying in the House of Commons to a question on the recent communal riots at Benares, the Secretary of State for India (Mr W. WodgwoOd ■ Sena) said the condition of the city was almost normal. Within a week a meet* ing addressed by Hindu and Mbslem. leaders carried resolutions deploring the riots, sympathising with the sufferers, and raiting fu&da for. the repair of temples, mosques, shops, and honsos, and for the compensation of. the injured.
