ANNUAL PICNICS.
DERBY'S MILITARY BAND. The annual picnic o£ Dairy's Military Band took place during the week-end at Stewart's Gully, There were about 400 excursionists, and a most enjoyable day was spent' in glorious- weather. The arrangements that had been were all that could be desired and reflected great credit on the, committee. Children's races "were conducted by Messrs Bristowe, Smith, Dickenson, and Wendelborno and the adults' races by 5* \V. Smith (handicapper), A.. Briatowe (starter), and E. Wall, C. Joughin, W. CHRISTCHURCH RAILWAY STAFF. : The annual picnic of the local staff of the Railway Department was held at the week-end at the Awa-iti Domain, there being a large attendance of the members and their families to fill two long trains to Little River. The weather conditions were perffict,' and the outing was one of- the roost successful • on record. A capable • committee, with Messrs A. Bailey (president), W. J. Aitken .- (treasured), and W< S. E.,Mpyle (secretary), wns untiring in its efforts to make the picnic aNpuocess; The Scottish Society's Pipe Band gave a musical programme during the day.
