RUGBY LEAGUE DISPUTE.
NEW SCHEME PROMISES SUCCESS. In a statement issued yesterday, Mr C. A. Sneddon, president of the New Zealand Rugby League, announced that the long standing dispute between the trustees of Monica Park and the'executive of the Canterbury Rugby League 'ohad practically been settled. Mr Sneddon and Mr W. O. Carlaw, secretary of the council, have been in Christchurch for^about a week on the matter. Mr Sneddon said that with Mr Carlaw he was leaving that evening for Auckland, confident that definite steps had-been'taken towards a settlement of the Monica Park dispute. As & result of negotiations with the trustees of the park and the local League, a scheme had been formulated which needed only ! to be put into operation < to ensure an end for'all time of the disputes which' had in the past ' proved so detrimental to the code. It was confidently anticipated that the New Zealand Rugby. League Council ■ in the course of next. week would be' -aWo, £o announce that the dispute had been ended, and • that in future the work I of the Canterbury League would proceed .harmoniously There, was' evidence that the -code; had' many followers in ■■ Christchurch. jOn all sides it had 1 been found' that there was an in&rost in the ttame that had been dormant for 6ome time, and 'required only-to be stij-re'd up to be:come again active. This/was the case not only amo'ngj the player#, but" also among the public.
