KOWAI. At the monthly mMting of, th« Xowai County 1 Council, there were present: Cra. J. D. Wjrllie (chairman)/"W. H. Hale, H. May, U. B. Forrester, W. A Seloher, B Peach, 'and J. H. Jamas. f - Measrs Olimie and Bailey interviewed the . Council in conuexion with the unemployed and explained the conditions of e&oh scheme • devised by the XTnemployment Board,' and K ' vdgseated that the Counoil form '' itself , l into a local Unemployment Committee 'for L 'the county and notify Mr Malcolm Fraser, , unemployment Coznmissioaer, Wellington. ' The Council; decided to do this. The Council thanked - Messrs Climie and Bailey for the information given. The Awatere and Westland County Coun- - «ils wrote askintt the Council' to support a resolutions passed by their counties, oml- . ing with: various , ways ■by which economies . could be effected during -the present depression.. , 8 The Waitaki County Council wrote ask- * ing for support of -its resolution asking the - New Zealand Counties' Association to call , a 3 conference of county representatives' early B next financial; year to diaousa Buoh matters , M_ and cost of education, and that 1 all county councils in New Zealand be cir--3 cularised asking for their support It was decided to support the motion. . , The: secretary of the New Zealand Coun- ' ties' Association wrote asking if the Conn- . cil would like a further Bupply of ' copies 1 of model by-laws before the printers broke i, up the type, and that the cost of legal 3 expenses was £126. The clerk was instructed 3 to ascertain the total legal costs incurred in drafting and printing model by-laws and J the cost of additional copies. 1 It. Was decided, that the clerk have power fc tO'.engfege registered unemployed men on ! willow destruction and other works at the rate of 12s per day. The clerk was in- , stracted to prepare a return of occupiers 1 of. Council ..reserves, the amount of annual ' rental and amount of in arrears, in each case. It was' also decided that the consideration of . paving the. highways-Ashley bridge ito lieithfield—bo deferred for twelve months; that the minimum charge for cleaning Dock Creek frontages- be Is; that 10 per : . eent. penalty- be . added to all rates unpaid after Tuesday, March 34th, 1931; and that theclerk interview Mr McLean in , connexion with ram paddock- reserve, and 3 report.
